James Tolan has a Ph.D. from the University of Louisiana in English and Creative Writing. He is the author of the poetry collection Mass of the Forgotten and the chapbook Red Walls. His poetry has appeared in the American Literary Review, Atlanta Review, Bellevue Literary Review, Connecticut Review, Fulcrum, Gargoyle, Indiana Review, Linebreak,, and Ploughshares, among other journals as well as a number of anthologies, including the The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary Poetry. He co-edited the anthology New America: Contemporary Literature for a Changing Society with Holly Messitt and has received fellowships and awards from such places as Associated Writing Programs, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the New York Department of Cultural Affairs.
